Oliver Kartak is a designer, artist, researcher, and Professor of Design and Narrative Media at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. His research examines how artificial intelligence can support creative education without inheriting the measurement and optimization logic common to the field.
This question animates The Resonance Room, an AI mentorship system he built around resonance over precision: one that recognises a student’s work before offering guidance, and that refuses to score, rank, or prescribe fixes.
The same concern extends from the studio to the architectures themselves: what current AI can and cannot produce, how compliance-oriented systems narrow the range of human thought, and whether computational error might instead serve as a resource for novelty. His work sits at the intersection of design pedagogy, artistic research, and the ethics of AI in education.
