Laura Wiesböck is Head of the junior research group “Digitalization and Social Transformation” at the Institute for Advanced Studies Vienna. She holds a doctorate in sociology from the University of Vienna, including international research and teaching stays at Oxford University, University of Ghana, or National Taiwan University. Her research focuses on social inequality, particularly with regard to gender, labour and digitalisation. In her book “Digitale Diagnosen” (2025, Zsolnay) she examines how social media shape perceptions of mental health. In the research project “ADDICT” (funding: AK Vienna) Laura Wiesböck and her team developed a taxonomy to evaluate addictive design risks on social media platforms. The sociologist was granted several prizes for her academic work.
