Laura Koesten is Assistant Professor at MBZUAI and affiliated with the University of Vienna (Faculty of Computer Science); as well as Senior Scientist at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT). She is the recipient of the 2024 Hedy Lamarr Prize awarded by the City of Vienna, and Principal Investigator of the WWTF Digital Humanism project Talking Charts. Her research in Human-Data Interaction explores how people make sense of data, visualisations, and models, with an emphasis on inclusive, ethical, and collaborative approaches to data reuse and explainability. She earned a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Southampton, UK, in collaboration with the Open Data Institute, UK.
