IEEE Europe
Irene Kitsara has been working at IEEE Europe since 2022 on digital ethics, governance and standardisation-related issues, and leads the IEEE Europe engagement in EU-funded projects, coordinating among others the IEEE contribution to the Horizon Europe Project The European Digital Humanism Initiative (EUDHIT).
Irene was member of the Law Committee of the IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems from 2016 to 2019. She previously worked for the European Patent Office, law firms, the European Commission and the Max-Planck-Institute for International Social Law. At WIPO, a specialised UN agency, Irene developed and led the area of patent analytics, including patent landscape reports in over 20 topics and the flagship publication “Technology Trends” (Artificial Intelligence (2019), Assistive Technology (2021), developing original methodologies, indicators, visualisations and taxonomies, creating meaningful tools and insights using IP and other data to support informed decision-making of policy makers.
Irene is a certified IEEE AI Ethics Lead Assessor, and has a certificate in Responsible Innovation from TU Delft, AI Business Transformation from Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management and one on Life Cycle Assessment: Quantifying Environmental impacts from MIT.
