European Commission
Since August 2023, Eric Peters has served as Head of the unit responsible for the preparation, negotiation, and implementation of the European strategy for digital policy, “The Digital Decade 2030,” within the Directorate-General of the European Commission. Prior to this role, he was advisor to the Director-General from January 2020. He is also responsible for coordinating the digital aspects of the European Commission President’s initiative, the “New European Bauhaus,” specifically for the digital components.
In August 2017, Eric Peters joined the cabinet of Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society, as an expert member, with a focus on internet platform regulation, culture, industrial policy, and, more broadly, political affairs. In February 2015, Eric Peters joined the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT), as deputy Head of Unit, where he coordinated the Digital Single Market, particularly its preparation and implementation.
Previously, from 2011, he was a member of the Bureau of European Policy Advisers (BEPA) to the President of the European Commission, as an advisor on international affairs and economic issues. Before joining BEPA, starting in mid-2010, he was an advisor to the Permanent Representative of France to the European Union institutions on international issues and strategic partnerships (directly reporting to Philippe Etienne, the French RP). In December 2007, he was appointed Deputy Head of Cabinet to Peter Mandelson, European Commissioner for Trade, and later served Baroness Catherine Ashton of Upholland, European Commissioner for International Trade, as Deputy Chief of Cabinet.
