Ute Schmid is Full Professor of Cognitive Systems at the University of Bamberg (Germany), Director of the Bamberg Center of AI (BaCAI) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt).
Her research interests lie in cognitive AI, inductive programming, explainable and interactive machine learning. Ute Schmid is a Fellow of the German Informatics Society and EurAI Fellow. For her engagement in supporting women in computer science, she received the Minerva Gender Equality Award from Informatics Europe on behalf of her university.
She has been active in AI education for many years. In recognition of her outreach activities she was honoured with the Rainer Markgraf Award.
