Sunimal Mendis is an Assistant Professor in Intellectual Property Law at the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT) of the Tilburg University, the Netherlands. She holds a PhD (magna cum laude) from the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, Munich. Her research explores issues at the interface of intellectual property (IP) law, the digital economy and digital culture, focusing on the need to calibrate current legal, regulatory and policy frameworks to render IP law a more effective tool for optimizing social and economic value creation. She is the Co-Principal Investigator of the DIGI-APPS project funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) and is working on her research project Re-imagining Copyright law in the Digital Public Sphere: Fostering democratic discourse on online spaces (CODiS) which is also funded by the NWO.
